WHAT PIECES OF LIVING ROOM FURNITURE ARE AVAILABLE AT HABITAT?
Living room, sitting room, lounge – whatever you may call it, we have all the ideas you’ll need to create the perfect heart to your home. Whether you prefer the pared back simplicity of Scandi style, the cosiness of Danish Hygge or an eclectic clash of patterns and colours, you’ll find living room furniture to suit your interior taste.
But where to start? Well, when it comes to the living room, the sofa is typically the heart. At Habitat we offer a multitude of styles, colours and designs, not to mention varying options in seating. Given that the sofa is such a dominant component in the room, it’s best to make sure that this accurately conveys your desired aesthetic. For example, if a classic style is up your street, then a Chesterfield design will work perfectly. If you prefer something a little more modern, amay suit you instead. Ironically, a popular contemporary style is actually a vintage-esque sofa, with wooden legs and mid-century curves - just the thing to complement a retro sideboard, if you so happen to have one. (And let’s face it, so many of us these days do.)
Not to sound too pedantic, but it’s imperative you think about how all the furniture works together. It doesn’t need to be matchy-matchy, so long as the pieces are all complementary. For example, if your sofa is sleek, with clean lines, then a glass TV table will play into the modern vibe, while a solid oak design that’s slightly on the ornate or ‘traditional’ side may jar slightly. Living room tables, including side tables andnot to mention TV stands, are also available at Habitat, with our range of designs encompassing metal, wood, glass - all the elements are there. We strive to ensure you have absolute freedom when designing your space.
Still looking for ideas? A detailed perusal of Instagram and Pinterest always works for us - ideal for evoking your inner interior decorator. Might we make a suggestion, derived from our own design research? Cover one wall with floor to ceiling bookcases or shelving; a simple, but effective, way to create an impactful space. And a unique styling tip? Arranging books by colour will add a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’.
HOW DO YOU KNOW YOUR FURNITURE WILL FIT IN YOUR LIVING ROOM?
Measuring a room is the least interesting aspect of decorating - but it’s also the most important. Before you make any decor plans (and certainly before you buy any furniture) you need a firm understanding of the room’s dimensions. We also suggest measuring your front door (inside the frame), plus hallways and passages - particularly in reference to sofas. Imagine if your desired design couldn’t even fit inside your home? Believe it or not, this is a common mistake that people make.
First up, measure the length of the room from the entrance to the furthest wall. Measure the length and width of the room - these measurements will give you an idea of how much space you will have to manoeuvre your furniture around. You should also measure the height of the walls, windows, radiators and fireplaces. The more info you have, the easier it will be to coordinate all the elements of the room.
Small living room furniture, such as side tables and footstools, all need to work together - no point putting your ‘small’ coffee table in front of your TV stand, only to realise it’s actually on the large side and somewhat blocks your view. Be sure to check each product page before you buy - all measurements are clearly outlined, ensuring you know exactly what you’re getting, and how much room each piece will take up.
ACCESSORIES TO ADD A RELAXING TOUCH TO YOUR LIVING ROOM
The living room is often the most used room in the home; a space where we entertain friends, the family congregates and children play. With all this in mind, it makes sense that this is one room that should reflect the perfect blend of style meets comfort.
On the comfort level, we suggest adorning the sofa with a mixture of cushions, preferably in all manner of shapes and sizes. For a family home, it often works to have a selection of large cushions that can be sat on every day, with smaller, more luxurious designs artfully placed on top - yet easy to remove when the family sit down for movie night.
If the level of luxe is of utmost importance to you, then cashmere throws and statementare all available at Habitat; all the home accessories that can really help to bring a room to life. For the pièce de résistance, we suggest utilising the power of strategically placed lighting. If you have a beautiful chair you’d like to highlight, do so by placing an elegant alongside it. Alternatively, wall lights work well in showcasing a striking piece of wall art.
When styling the living room, the key thing to remember is that the clue is in the name: it’s the room you live in every day. Luckily Habitat is on hand to help bring it to life.
